The Pennsylvania Innocence Project

The Center City campus serves as a focal point for the Pennsylvania Innocence Project, a collaborative initiative involving the Beasley School of Law and Philadelphia’s legal community. The project is dedicated to rectifying miscarriages of justice by working to exonerate individuals wrongfully convicted of crimes and preventing further unjust convictions. The Pennsylvania Innocence Project is guided by a comprehensive four-fold mission:

  • Secure Exoneration: Advocate for the exoneration, release from imprisonment, and restoration to society of individuals who are innocent and have been wrongly convicted.
  • Clinical Training: Provide valuable clinical training and hands-on experience to students in the fields of law, journalism, criminal justice, and forensic science.
  • Collaboration: Work collaboratively with law enforcement agencies and the courts to address systemic issues contributing to wrongful convictions.
  • Strengthening the Justice System: Engage in efforts to strengthen and enhance the effectiveness of the criminal justice system in Pennsylvania through public education and advocacy.
