Opinions and feedback matter. Feedback from students and faculty and Temple University Center have proven to be an effective tool in ensuring positive change for the campus.
Every spring semester, Temple University Center City (TUCC) sends a survey to faculty members teaching at TUCC and to students enrolled in at least one class at the campus.
“The student and faculty surveys provide constructive feedback on topics ranging from campus resources to transportation time to and from TUCC,” said William Parshall, Director of Temple University Center City. “This survey serves an important role in ensuring TUCC continues to meet the needs of its student and faculty population.”
According to Parshall, while the survey asks some “check the box” questions, “some of the richest feedback comes in the comment sections.”
“Students and faculty have the chance to say what they like most and what they like least about attending and teaching at Temple University Center City. One recurring positive answer is the convenience,” he said. “TUCC benefits from its strategic location with access to an abundance of public transportation options. Evening and Saturday classes tend to fit perfectly into a typical work schedule and are an advantage for many of our adult learners.”
In addition to an accommodating class schedule and favorable location, students and faculty have both noted the professional atmosphere of the campus.
“Many members of our faculty have practical experience in the field they are teaching. Both students and professors cited this experience as an asset,” Parshall said. “Faculty members also remarked that the type of students TUCC attracts makes this campus unique — from adult learners continuing their education to traditional full-time students pursuing undergraduate and graduate degrees.
TUCC provides services to ensure that the needs of its non-traditional students are met, according to Parshall, including extended hours for academic advising, administrative services, discount parking, safety escort services and an open computer lab.
“Many of our services were enhanced because of student and faculty survey comments,” he said. “For example, office space is available to faculty who want to prepare before class or meet with students.”
TUCC has negotiated discounted parking rates at nearby locations such as Parkway Parking at 1500 Market Street and 1700 Market Street and LAZ Parking at 1501 John F Kennedy Boulevard. Students and faculty pay no more than $6 to park after 3:00 p.m. with a valid Temple ID, Monday through Friday. TUCC’s safety escort service is available Monday through Friday, 5:30 to 10:30 p.m. to accompany students on their walk to the subway or a parking garage entrance.
The TUCC technology center on campus is open to students Monday through Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m., and Friday and Saturday until 4:00 p.m. (closed on Saturdays in July and August). More information about these and other services is available on Temple Center City’s website.
“TUCC has responded to multiple requests from students for more electrical outlets. As classrooms revolve more and more around technology, laptops, phones and tablets need to stay charged and ready for use at all times,” said Parshall. “In an effort to accommodate this need, the campus has introduced a portable battery pack station located in the TUCC tech center. These ‘Power Share’ battery packs are compatible with iPhones, tablets, laptops and more, and will be available for use free of charge by all Temple students, faculty and staff for up to five hours.
Thank you to all those who participated in our annual student and faculty survey. TUCC listens to the needs of its student and faculty population because your journey is our mission.
