What does IDEA Mean? What Does the UC-IDEA Committee do?

IDEA means Inclusion, Diversity, Equity Action.

Similarly to other multicultural committees, the UC-IDEA Committee is made up of interested University College staff members. The committee meets weekly and works to eliminate racial and other barriers that create disparities among all people by offering trainings, relevant programming and resources.

The UC-IDEA Committee was created in response to the systemic racism and social injustice that people of color, particularly African Americans, face every day. George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, and Breonna Taylor were among some recent tragedies that ignited the formation of this committee.

Where is your office located?

This committee was formed during the COVID-19 pandemic. As of now, we exist and meet online via Zoom.

Are members of the UC-IDEA Committee SafeZone certified?

Some members of the UC-IDEA Committee are SafeZone certified. Those who are not are working to become certified.

Can I report an incident of discrimination to this committee?

No. Although this committee advocates for students, staff and faculty on diversity and inclusion centered issues, all reporting of discrimination should be filed with the Office of Equal Opportunity and Compliance.
